Ogoh-ogoh parades for Nyepi
Nyepi is a day of self reflection, a day of silence. No one is allowed outdoors or to make any noise or use electricity. To avoid missing a day of surf, we decided to head to Medewi, a small Muslim community in Northern Bali, where we can stay and walk to the beach to surf. We were stoked to catch a local schools Ogoh-ogoh parade earlier in the day!
Spiritual cleansing for Nyepi
The week leading up to Nyepi (The Balinese New Year) is filled with many different ceremonies to prepare for the New Year and Day of Silence. We were lucky to see a few by accident. This was a cleansing ceremony we viewed while enjoying a lunch after a surf.
The Bali Experience
After the first trip, we fell in love with Bali. We recently returned from our second, month long adventure there. Our trip happened to overlap with a few Hindu holidays, the first was Tumpek Landep, a holiday where you bless your cars, scooters, and electronics to insure safe travels and use for the year ahead.
