ARTISAN MARKETS II - THE YURT MARKET PLACE IN SAN CLEMENTE
WE HAVE BEEN PARTICIPATING IN AN ARTISAN MARKET LATELY IN SAN CLEMENTE, CA. ITS BEEN A BLAST, IT IS REALLY COOL TO HANG OUT WITH OTHER ARTISAN LOCAL VENDORS FROM THE AREA, LOTS OF CREATIVITY FLOWING AND REALLY NICE PEOPLE. I THINK THE ARTISAN LOCAL MARKET IS KINDA NEW, ACTUALLY I BET THE IDEA IS ANCIENT, BUT JUST BEEN FORGOTTEN FOR A LONG TIME. ITS REALLY COOL TO GET TO MEET THE PEOPLE THAT COME TO VISIT ALSO AND ACTUALLY MEET THE PEOPLE YOU ARE SELLING PRODUCTS TO, IN FACT I THINK WE WILL TRY AND DO THIS MORE, MEETING THE CUSTOMER AND HAVING A CHAT IS THE REASON WE BUILD THIS STUFF ANYWAY. SO, WE MAY BE TAKING THIS ON THE ROAD, SO, YOU MAY SEE US ONE OF THESE DAYS , AND IF YOU DO PLEASE COME AND SAY HELLO......
ARTISAN MARKETS
THIS PAST WEEKEND WE PARTICIPATED IN A SMALL MARKET THAT THEY HAVE ONE SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH IN SAN CLEMENTE, CALIFORNIA. SO COOL... WE WERENT REALLY SURE WHAT TO EXPECT, WE HAD A FRIEND TELL US ABOUT IT. HE SAID IT WAS A LITTLE MARKET WHERE A FEW ARTISTS GET TOGETHER ONCE A MONTH AND HAVE A LITTLE SHOW. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHECKING OUT SHOWS LIKE THIS, I AM PRETTY SURE THEY ARE POPPING UP ALL OVER, IN FACT A FRIEND OF MINE SAID THEY WERE STARTING TO HAVE THEM OVER IN BALI ALSO. AS A NEW SMALL CLOTHING BRAND IT WAS REALLY COOL TO GET TOGETHER WITH OTHER SMALL BUSINESS STARTERS, PEOPLE WHO TOOK THEIR PASSION AND MADE A BUSINESS OUT OF IT. IT WAS REALLY INSPIRING. WE ALSO MET A BUNCH OF REALLY COOL PEOPLE AND MADE NEW FRIENDS, TO HELP INSPIRE US TO KEEP DOING IT. HONESTLY, THE BEST PART OF SELLING IN MARKETS LIKE THIS, IS YOU GET TO MEET THE PEOPLE WHO BUY YOUR STUFF AND GET TO CHAT WITH THE REAL PEOPLE WHO ARE BACKING YOUR STUFF. IT WAS COOL TO SEE PEOPLE GET EXCITED ABOUT THE STUFF WE WERE EXCITED ABOUT. OVERALL MORAL TO THE STORY IS WHEN THEY SAY "SHOP LOCAL" I GET IT NOW, ITS RAD GO OUT AND MEET THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOUR STUFF, IT GIVES SO MUCH MORE MEANING TO THE THINGS YOU OWN WHEN THEY ALL HAVE A STORY AND FACE BEHIND THEM.
IF YOU ARE EVER IN SAN CLEMENTE YOU GOTTA LOOK UP theyurtsc.com AND FIND OUT WHEN THE SHOWS ARE CAUSE THERE ARE SOME TREASURES IN THERE, FROM JEWELRY TO ESSENTIAL OILS TO AWESOME CANDLES AND CLOCKS, TO VEGAN SNACKS EVEN SOME REALLY COOL CLOTHING. AND PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU STOP BY AND SAY HELLO TO US, CAUSE WE LOVE TO MEET NEW PEOPLE.

Ogoh-ogoh parades for Nyepi
Nyepi is a day of self reflection, a day of silence. No one is allowed outdoors or to make any noise or use electricity. To avoid missing a day of surf, we decided to head to Medewi, a small Muslim community in Northern Bali, where we can stay and walk to the beach to surf. We were stoked to catch a local schools Ogoh-ogoh parade earlier in the day!
Spiritual cleansing for Nyepi
The week leading up to Nyepi (The Balinese New Year) is filled with many different ceremonies to prepare for the New Year and Day of Silence. We were lucky to see a few by accident. This was a cleansing ceremony we viewed while enjoying a lunch after a surf.
The Bali Experience
After the first trip, we fell in love with Bali. We recently returned from our second, month long adventure there. Our trip happened to overlap with a few Hindu holidays, the first was Tumpek Landep, a holiday where you bless your cars, scooters, and electronics to insure safe travels and use for the year ahead.
